Upon arrival at Namunyak Airstrip, you will be met by Sarara guide / vehicle and you will be transferred to the lodge with a short game drive enroute.
Sararara Tree house lies in the northern frontier in the Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy, an area of 850,000 acres of pristine wilderness surrounding the Mathews Range of mountains. The savannah plains and lush mountain slopes are home to elephant, leopard, reticulated giraffe, wild dog and kudu in ever increasing numbers. This remote and dramatic landscape is also home to the local Samburu people whose age-old traditions, including the famed ‘singing wells’ are as much a part of the fabric of this land as the wildlife. The conservation work carried out by the Namunyak Trust to date has been hugely successful. As a result of the severe ivory poaching crisis of the 70’s and early 80’s there were no recorded elephants remaining in the Mathews Ranges by 1985. Today, several thousand elephants are living and breeding peacefully in the southern Mathews Range area. Together with a variety of other wildlife species such as buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, African wild dog, greater and lesser kudu, gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, impala and dik dik. Sarara Treehouses have eight tents with ensuite toilet and basin with an adjacent shower enclosed within Sarara ‘style’ walls but open to the skies. Two tents are close together and work well for families with younger children (5 and over).
Lunch will be served followed by an afternoon game drive as per the schedule of the Lodge on shared basis.

(When Sarara Tree House is closed we will use Saruni Samburu as an alternative)
Another day spend in Mathews Range. On this day you will visit the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary.
The Reteti Elephant Sanctuary is situated in the remote Mathews Range, among Kenya’s second largest elephant population. It takes in orphaned and abandoned elephant calves with an aim to release them back into the wild herds adjoining the Sanctuary. This is the result of a widely recognized and expanding grassroots movement of community-driven conservation across northern Kenya; a movement that is growing new economies, transforming lives and conserving natural resources.
The elephant keepers all recruited from within the Conservancy have perfected the skill of returning lost calves back to their family herds. Since March, they have successfully returned five abandoned calves to their families, and have not yet needed to hand raise any individuals. This is the primary aim of the Sanctuary – with elephants only being taken into care as a last resort.
Return for lunch at your tree house. Spend the afternoon enjoying activities offered at the house.
Evening game drive as per the house schedule on shared basis.
All meals will be served at Sarara Tree House.

The lodge overlooks a vast private wildlife sanctuary called Kalama Conservancy, and has exclusive access to the surrounding 200,000 acres of pristine, protected wilderness. The area around Saruni Samburu is teeming with wildlife – from the giant herds of Samburu elephant coming to drink at the waterholes, leopard making their lairs on rocky outcrops nearby, to endangered packs of African wild dog seen traversing the plains below the lodge. The area is also home to rare endemic species, the Samburu Five: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and gerenuk. Saruni Samburu’s six luxury, eco-chic villas are open and spacious, heralding spectacular views over Kalama Conservancy and Mount Kenya.
